Battery storage
Solar battery storage for Palmdale and Antelope Valley homes
SCE's NEM 3.0 rules pay little for the power you export at 2 p.m. and charge a lot for what you buy at 7 p.m. A home battery closes that gap and keeps essentials running when the grid goes down. We install Generac PWRcell, Tesla, FranklinWH and Enphase storage and handle the SGIP rebate.

Who a home battery is for
Three kinds of households get the most from storage in the high desert.
The first is anyone with solar on SCE’s Net Billing tariff, which is every system connected since the NEM 3.0 changeover. Your panels produce the most at midday, your house uses the most in the evening, and the utility pays you a small credit for the gap. Storage lets you keep that midday energy and spend it yourself when rates are highest.
The second is anyone who has lived through a wind-related shutoff or a summer outage in Palmdale, Lancaster or the rural east side, and does not want to do it again with a fridge full of food and no internet. A battery switches over instantly and silently; nobody in the house notices except the neighbors.
The third is anyone planning new solar in 2026. With the federal residential credit gone, the design has to earn its keep on utility savings alone, and a battery is the most reliable way to raise the value of every kilowatt-hour the roof makes.
Good fit if…
- You are on SCE NEM 3.0 and most of your usage lands in the 4–9 p.m. peak
- Wind outages or PSPS events hit your neighborhood and you want the essentials covered
- You have or are adding solar and want to use it after dark
- You may qualify for an SGIP Equity or Equity Resiliency rebate
Not the right fit if…
- You are on LADWP retail-rate net metering and have no outage concern; solar alone may be enough
- You need to run a well pump or central air through a multi-day outage; that is generator territory
- Your daytime usage already absorbs everything your solar produces
- There is no safe, code-compliant place to mount the battery, such as a garage wall or shaded exterior wall
Benefits
What a battery actually does for a Palmdale home
- 01
Use your solar after the sun goes down
SCE's peak pricing window starts in the late afternoon, right as your panels taper off. A battery moves your surplus into that window instead of exporting it for a fraction of retail.
- 02
Power through outages and shutoffs
Wind-driven public safety shutoffs and summer grid strain are a fact of life in the high desert. A battery keeps the refrigerator, Wi-Fi, medical equipment and some lights running without a sound.
- 03
SGIP rebates for qualifying households
California's Self-Generation Incentive Program pays a per-kilowatt-hour rebate to income-qualified and high-fire-threat households. The general-market budget in SCE territory was closed at our last check. We check your eligibility and handle the application.
- 04
Makes an existing solar system pay again
If your panels were installed under older net metering, a battery is still the best way to prepare for the day that tariff ends. If you are on NEM 3.0 already, it is the difference between a good system and a disappointing one.

Generac PWRcell from a certified installer
We are a Generac Certified Dealer and Installer, and we also install Tesla, FranklinWH and Enphase batteries. Brand choice follows your goals, not our inventory.
- 06
Sited for desert heat
Batteries lose life when they bake. We place units on shaded north or east walls or in the garage where possible and follow each manufacturer's temperature guidance for the valley.
The process
How a battery install works
Sizing is the part that matters most. The install itself is usually a single day.
What to know before you buy a battery
Capacity, coupling, placement and paperwork, without the jargon.
Two numbers: kilowatt-hours and kilowatts
A battery’s capacity in kilowatt-hours tells you how long it can run your loads; its power rating in kilowatts tells you how much it can run at once. A home that wants to ride through the evening peak needs enough capacity to cover usage from roughly late afternoon to bedtime. A home that wants to start a well pump or an air conditioner during an outage needs enough power to handle that motor’s surge. We size both from your bill and a conversation about what you cannot live without.
AC-coupled or DC-coupled
If you already have solar with Enphase microinverters or a string inverter, an AC-coupled battery sits alongside the existing system with minimal changes. New installs can use a DC-coupled design in which the panels charge the battery directly, which is a little more efficient. Generac PWRcell, Tesla, FranklinWH and Enphase each approach this differently; we match the battery to your inverter rather than the other way around.
Where it goes
Heat shortens battery life, and Palmdale garages hit well over 100 degrees in summer. We prefer a shaded exterior wall out of the afternoon sun or a garage wall away from the door, and we follow the manufacturer’s clearance and temperature guidance. Fire code requires specific setbacks from doors and windows, and the inspector will check them. Battery installations need an electrical permit from your city or county, and the wiring is done under our C-10 license (CSLB #1105123).
Backup circuits
Whole-home backup is possible but expensive. Most families choose a critical-loads subpanel that covers the kitchen refrigerator, a bedroom, the router, garage door and a few outlets, with the option to add air conditioning later. If you want to run everything for days, a Generac standby generator is usually the better tool, and we design the two to hand off cleanly.
Rebates, credits and financing
California’s SGIP program offers a rebate per kilowatt-hour of installed storage, with equity and equity-resiliency tiers for income-qualified and high-fire-threat households; the general-market residential budget in SCE territory was closed at our last check. Funds are allocated in order of application, so if you qualify we reserve yours early. The federal residential tax credit no longer applies to homeowner purchases as of 2026. Our California solar incentives in 2026 page has current figures, and our solar financing options in Palmdale cover loans and $0-down options for adding storage to a new or existing system. Why SunCoast
Certified for the battery and the generator
- 01
Generac Certified Dealer & Installer
Certified to sell, install and service Generac PWRcell storage and home standby generators, which lets us design integrated backup instead of bolting two systems together.
- 02
C-10 electricians on every install
Batteries touch your main panel, your solar and your backup circuits. Our own licensed electricians do that work, and the inspector sees our license on the permit.
- 03
We know the valley's outages and rates
Based in Palmdale since 2019, we have watched the tariff change and the shutoffs come. Our sizing advice comes from local bills, not a national spreadsheet.
- 04
Storage for systems we did not install
Adding a battery to an orphaned or aging solar system is routine for us, including the inverter compatibility checks and the SCE interconnection update.

Questions
Battery storage questions
01Do I really need a battery with solar in Palmdale?
Under SCE's NEM 3.0 Net Billing, exported solar earns much less than the power you buy in the evening. Without a battery, a large share of your afternoon production is sold cheap and bought back dear a few hours later. If your household uses most of its power after 4 p.m., which is typical for working families running air conditioning, a battery is what makes the solar math work. If your daytime usage is unusually high, you may be fine without one. We model both.
02How long will a battery run my house during an outage?
It depends on what you back up. A single battery covering essentials such as the refrigerator, lights, internet and a few outlets can run through a night comfortably and recharge from solar the next day. Running central air conditioning in July is a much bigger load and usually calls for multiple batteries or a Generac standby generator instead. We design the backed-up circuits around what matters to you.
03Which battery brands do you install?
Generac PWRcell, as a Generac Certified Dealer and Installer, plus Tesla, FranklinWH and Enphase batteries. The right one depends on your inverter, how much backup power you need and whether you may add a generator later. We explain the differences instead of pushing a single brand.
04Is there a rebate for home batteries in California?
Yes. As of September 2026 the SGIP program provides a rebate on residential battery storage, with a standard tier and higher equity and equity-resiliency tiers for qualifying households, including some in high fire-threat areas or on medical baseline. Amounts change as funds are used, so check our incentives page for the current figures. We prepare and submit the SGIP paperwork for you.
05Can I add a battery to solar panels someone else installed?
Yes. We regularly add storage to existing systems, including systems whose original installer is no longer in business. We check your inverter and monitoring first because some combinations work better with an AC-coupled battery and others with DC coupling. Either way, we handle the interconnection update with SCE.
06Battery or generator: which is better for backup?
A battery is silent, needs no fuel, works with your solar and handles short outages and nightly peak-shaving. A generator can run heavy loads for days as long as gas or propane holds out. Many Antelope Valley homes end up with a battery for daily savings and a Generac generator for extended shutoffs. We are certified for both, so we can size them to work together instead of overlapping.
07Does a battery affect the federal tax credit?
For homeowners buying outright, the federal residential credit ended for systems placed in service after December 31, 2025, so it does not apply to a 2026 purchase, battery or otherwise. State SGIP rebates are separate and still available. Third-party-owned systems may still qualify for the business credit through 2027.
