Solar, batteries and backup power in Littlerock, CA

Littlerock is twenty minutes east of our Palmdale office along Pearblossom Highway, and it is one of the places we have installed most often. Rural lots, well pumps and SCE shutoff exposure make it a different job from a tract home in town, and we design for that.

Local knowledge

What going solar in Littlerock actually involves

Littlerock (ZIP 93543) is an unincorporated community in the southeastern Antelope Valley, strung along Pearblossom Highway (State Route 138) between Palmdale and Pearblossom at roughly 2,900 feet, where the valley floor meets the San Gabriel foothills. Sun exposure is excellent and the elevation keeps summer nights cooler than the valley floor, both good for panel output. What makes Littlerock different is its lots: acre-plus parcels, horse properties, outbuildings, metal roofs and a large share of homes on private wells rather than a water district.

That last point drives our design conversations. A well pump is a large motor load that a small backup battery cannot start comfortably, so for many Littlerock homes the right answer is solar plus a Generac standby generator, or solar plus a battery sized for the pump with a generator behind it. As a Generac Certified dealer and installer we size the generator for the well, the AC and the freezer together, install the automatic transfer switch under our own C-10 license and service it afterward.

Outages are not theoretical here. Littlerock, Pearblossom, Juniper Hills, Acton and Leona Valley have all appeared in Southern California Edison's Public Safety Power Shutoff watch areas during high-wind, low-humidity events, and the eastern valley's long rural feeders also see ordinary wind and equipment outages. A battery keeps lights, internet and refrigeration going through a short event; a generator keeps the whole property running through a multi-day shutoff.

Littlerock is SCE territory on NEM 3.0 Net Billing, so exported solar earns a low credit and evening power costs full time-of-use rates. Larger lots open up an option most tract homes do not have: a ground-mounted array, which avoids roof condition questions, can be angled for best production and is easy to expand. Where the roof is sound, composition shingle and standing-seam metal both work well. Manufactured homes have their own attachment and permitting rules, and we will tell you plainly whether roof or ground mount makes more sense for yours.

Because Littlerock is unincorporated, permits come from Los Angeles County Public Works Building & Safety rather than the City of Palmdale. The county's Antelope Valley district office is on East Avenue K-6 in Lancaster and applications go through the EPIC-LA online system. We pull the permit, submit the SCE interconnection, schedule the county inspector and handle any SGIP battery rebate paperwork. Our crew is twenty minutes away, so service visits are quick.

Why here

Why solar works in Littlerock

  1. 01

Backup that starts a well pump

We size Generac generators and batteries for the real loads on rural properties: wells, AC, shop equipment.

  2. 02

    Built for PSPS country

Littlerock and its neighbors have been in SCE shutoff watch areas. We design so a shutoff is an inconvenience, not an emergency.

  3. 03

    Ground mounts on larger lots

Acre lots let us place an array where production is best and leave the roof alone.

  4. 04

    County permits, not city

LA County Building & Safety through EPIC-LA. We do this regularly and know the inspectors' expectations.

Questions

Littlerock solar questions

Straight answers to what Littlerock homeowners ask us most.

01Who issues solar permits in Littlerock?

Littlerock is unincorporated, so permits come from Los Angeles County Public Works Building & Safety, not the City of Palmdale. The Antelope Valley district office is in Lancaster and applications are filed through EPIC-LA. We handle the permit, the SCE interconnection application and the inspection.

02Is Littlerock in an SCE Public Safety Power Shutoff area?

Parts of Littlerock and neighboring Pearblossom, Juniper Hills, Acton and Leona Valley have been included in SCE PSPS watch areas during high-wind fire-weather events. Whether your specific address is in a shutoff zone depends on the circuit; SCE's address lookup will tell you, and we will factor it into your backup design.

03Can a battery run my well pump during an outage?

Sometimes, if the battery is sized for the pump's start-up load, but for most Littlerock properties a Generac standby generator is the more practical choice for the well, the AC and a long outage. Many homeowners pair a battery for daily NEM 3.0 savings with a generator for extended events.

04Should I put panels on the roof or on the ground?

If your roof is in good shape and faces the right way, roof mount is usually cheaper. On larger Littlerock lots, a ground mount lets us choose the best orientation, keeps the roof untouched and is simpler to expand. We assess both and quote the one that produces more for the money.

05How does SCE NEM 3.0 affect Littlerock homeowners?

Exported solar earns a low avoided-cost credit while evening imports cost full time-of-use rates. Sizing the system to what you actually use and adding storage for the 4–9 p.m. peak is how Littlerock homes get the most out of solar under NEM 3.0.

06Is there a federal tax credit for Littlerock homeowners in 2026?

No. The residential credit ended for systems placed in service after 2025. Third-party-owned residential systems and commercial projects can still use the Section 48E credit through 2027, and income-qualified or high-fire-threat households may qualify for SGIP battery rebates.
