Local knowledge
What going solar in Palmdale actually involves
Palmdale sits at about 2,650 feet on the western edge of the Mojave, with hot, dry summers, cold clear winters and some of the most reliable sunshine in Southern California. That is great for annual production, but it changes how a system should be built. Panels lose a little output when they run hot, so we favor modules with a good temperature coefficient and keep an air gap under the array. Wind matters too: attachments and racking are specified for Antelope Valley gusts, not for a coastal tract home.
Most of Palmdale's housing was built from the 1980s on. Concrete tile over stucco is common in Rancho Vista, Anaverde and the newer 93551 and 93552 subdivisions, while the east side and Lake Los Angeles (93591) have more composition shingle, older ranch homes and larger lots. Tile roofs call for tile-hook or replacement-flashing mounts so no tile is cracked and nothing leaks. We look at roof age before anything else; a roof with only a few years left should be replaced before panels go on top, and we will tell you that up front.
Palmdale is Southern California Edison territory, which means NEM 3.0 Net Billing. Power you export midday is credited at avoided-cost rates that are far below what you pay to import it back during the 4–9 p.m. peak, and summer air conditioning is exactly when Antelope Valley bills spike. Nearly every system we design in Palmdale now includes a battery or is wired to add one, so you store your own daytime production and use it in the evening instead of selling it cheap. SGIP battery rebates are available to income-qualified and high-fire-threat households; the general-market budget in SCE territory was closed at our last check. We check eligibility and handle the paperwork.
Central Palmdale is not usually inside SCE's Public Safety Power Shutoff zones, but the foothill edges toward Leona Valley, Acton and Littlerock are, and wind-related outages happen across the valley every year. A battery covers evening use and short outages. For multi-day events, or for homes with a well pump, medical equipment or a full freezer, a Generac standby generator is the better fit, and as a Generac Certified dealer we can install and service either one, or both together.
Solar permits in Palmdale go through the City of Palmdale Building & Safety. Existing single-family homes without a battery can use SolarAPP+, which approves code-compliant designs almost instantly; systems that include battery storage go through the city's Accela portal for standard review. We submit the permit, file the SCE interconnection application and schedule the inspection. Because our office is a few minutes from most Palmdale addresses, site visits, installs and service calls rarely wait more than a week.

Why here
Why solar works in Palmdale
- 01
Strong sun, hot roofs
Palmdale gets year-round production. We design for heat and wind so panels keep producing in July and stay put in a windstorm.
- 02
NEM 3.0 makes batteries pay
SCE credits exports at a fraction of retail. Storing daytime power for the evening peak is what turns solar into real savings here.
- 03

Questions
Palmdale solar questions
Straight answers to what Palmdale homeowners ask us most.
01Do you pull permits with the City of Palmdale?
Yes. We are the permit holder on every job. Eligible rooftop systems on existing single-family homes go through the city's SolarAPP+ process for near-instant approval; systems with a battery are submitted through the City of Palmdale's Accela portal. We also file your SCE interconnection application and meet the inspector.
02How does SCE NEM 3.0 affect Palmdale homeowners?
Under NEM 3.0 Net Billing, power you send to SCE is credited at avoided-cost rates that are much lower than what you pay for evening power. Solar alone still lowers your bill, but pairing it with a battery so you use your own production during the 4–9 p.m. peak is what makes the savings strong in Palmdale.
03Is there still a federal tax credit for solar in Palmdale in 2026?
Not for homeowner-owned systems. The residential credit (Section 25D) ended for systems placed in service after December 31, 2025. The business credit (Section 48E) is still available through 2027 for commercial systems and for third-party-owned residential systems such as leases and PPAs, which is one reason our $0-down programs remain popular. SGIP battery rebates are available to income-qualified and high-fire-threat households; the general-market budget in SCE territory was closed at our last check.
04Do I really need a battery in Palmdale?
You do not have to add one, but most Palmdale homeowners should at least plan for it. Between NEM 3.0 export rates and summer time-of-use pricing, a battery usually improves payback, and it keeps lights, Wi-Fi and the refrigerator running through the wind outages we get every year.
05Will Palmdale wind and heat damage my panels?
Not when the system is built for it. We use racking and roof attachments rated for Antelope Valley wind loads, keep an air gap for cooling and choose panels that hold output in high heat. Every install comes with our 25-year warranty and written production guarantee.
06How far is Palmdale from your office?
We are at 39032 8th St E, Palmdale 93550, so most Palmdale homes are within ten to fifteen minutes. That is why our site visits, installs and service calls in Palmdale are usually scheduled within the same week.
