Who home solar is for in 2026
Solar is not automatic anymore. Here is who it still fits, and who should think twice.
Rooftop solar makes the most sense for Antelope Valley homeowners with a summer SCE bill that hurts, a roof with decent southern or western exposure, and plans to stay in the house long enough to see the payback. Households running air conditioning through 100-degree afternoons, charging an EV, or running a pool pump are the classic fit, because that daytime load gets covered directly by the panels instead of being exported at a discount.
It is a weaker fit if your bill is already small, if your roof needs replacing in the next few years, or if heavy shade from mature trees covers the best roof planes. We will tell you that on the first call. When it does fit, we design for the whole house: the array, a battery if evening usage justifies one, and conduit for an EV charger even if the car comes later.
Good fit if…
- Your summer SCE bill is high and most of it is afternoon air conditioning
- The roof faces south or west, has little shade and has ten or more years of life left
- You plan to stay in the home long enough to see the payback
- You want a battery, EV charger or heat pump designed in from the start
Not the right fit if…
- Your bill is already small; without the federal credit the savings may not justify the cost
- Mature trees shade the best roof planes for most of the day
- The roof needs replacing in the next few years and you are not ready to do that first
- You expect to sell within a year or two and want a quick return
Benefits
Why a Palmdale roof is a good place for solar
- 01
More production per panel than the coast
Palmdale sits at about 2,650 feet with clear, dry skies most of the year. That means more usable sunlight hitting each panel, so a modest system covers more of your bill.
- 02
A hedge against SCE rate increases
SCE rates stepped up sharply in 2025 and only eased a little in 2026, with more increases already approved through 2028. Power from your own roof costs the same in year 20 as it did in year one, which is the point of owning the system.
- 03
Guaranteed output, in writing
We put a 25-year production guarantee on paper along with the 25-year warranty. If the system underproduces what we promised, that is our problem to fix.
- 04
Designed for NEM 3.0 from day one
Under Net Billing, exported power earns a fraction of retail. We size the array for your actual usage and show you when a battery pays for itself, not just when it looks good.
- 05
Built for wind, heat and the occasional snow
High-desert gusts and 100-plus-degree summers are hard on cheap racking. We use mounting and flashing rated for it and match the attachment method to tile, comp shingle or metal.
- 06
Serviced by the same local company
We have held permits in the valley since 2019 and we service systems other installers abandoned. Choosing us means the company that installed your system is the one that answers when you call about it.
The process
How a home solar install goes with SunCoast
Five steps. We handle the permit office and SCE; you handle picking a day for the crew.
What to know before you sign
The details that actually affect your system, in plain English.
Equipment choices
Most of our residential systems use Enphase microinverters or SolarEdge optimizers. Both let each panel produce independently, which matters on roofs with a chimney, a vent or a neighbor’s tree throwing partial shade. Panels come from manufacturers such as Q CELLS, Canadian Solar, Panasonic and LG. In the high desert we care about a panel’s temperature coefficient, meaning how much output it loses as the glass heats up, more than its nameplate wattage, because a July afternoon on a Palmdale roof is far hotter than the lab conditions on the spec sheet.
Roof and structure
Tile roofs dominate newer subdivisions in Palmdale and Lancaster; older homes and Littlerock properties are often comp shingle, and rural parcels frequently have metal. Each gets a different mount and flashing. We inspect the roof before design, and if a comp shingle roof is near the end of its life we recommend re-roofing first rather than paying to remove and reinstall panels later. Wind load is a real design input here; racking is engineered for the gusts the valley gets, not a generic California assumption.
Permits, interconnection and timeline
Palmdale and Lancaster issue their own building permits; Littlerock and other unincorporated areas go through Los Angeles County, and Rosamond and California City go through Kern County. Our B General Building license (CSLB #1028836) covers the structural and roofing work and our C-10 electrical license (CSLB #1105123) covers the wiring, which is what the inspector wants to see. After inspection, SCE reviews the interconnection and issues permission to operate. The install itself is usually one to two days; the paperwork on either side takes longer, and we tell you what to expect for your city up front.
Warranties and the production guarantee
Manufacturer warranties cover the panels and inverters. On top of that, SunCoast provides a 25-year warranty and a 25-year written production guarantee on the systems we install. The guarantee is tied to the production estimate in your proposal, so the number you are shown is a number we are accountable for.
Money
As of September 2026 there is no federal tax credit for a homeowner who purchases a system. Leased and PPA systems owned by a third party can still qualify for the business credit through 2027, and California’s SGIP program offers rebates on batteries. Our California solar incentives in 2026 page keeps the current details, and our solar financing options in Palmdale lay out cash, loan, $0-down and lease options so you can compare total cost, not just the monthly payment. Homeowners in Palmdale and Lancaster are on SCE; if you are in the City of Los Angeles, LADWP’s rules differ and we design around them. Two useful reads before you call: what solar panels cost in Palmdale and how long a solar installation takes.

Why SunCoast
A local installer that plans to stay local
- 01
Palmdale office, Antelope Valley crew
We are on 8th Street East in Palmdale, not a sales office two counties away. The people who design your system are the ones who answer the phone after it is on.
- 02
Licensed for the whole job
General building and C-10 electrical licenses under one roof mean nobody hands off the hard part to a subcontractor you never vetted.
- 03
Generac Certified for backup power
If you want a battery or generator alongside solar, we are a certified Generac dealer and installer, so the system is designed as one.
- 04
Written production guarantee
The 25-year guarantee is in the contract, not a brochure. It is the clearest way we know to show confidence in our own designs.

Questions
Home solar questions, answered honestly
01Is home solar still worth it in Palmdale now that the federal tax credit is gone?
For many households, yes, but the math changed. The residential credit (Section 25D) ended for systems placed in service after December 31, 2025, so a purchased system in 2026 gets no federal credit. What has not changed is the Antelope Valley sun and rising SCE rates. We run the numbers on your actual bill and tell you the payback honestly. If it does not pencil out, we will say so.
02What does NEM 3.0 mean for my solar savings?
SCE's Net Billing tariff credits exported power at a rate well below what you pay to buy it, especially in the afternoon. The savings now come from using your own solar as it is produced and storing the rest in a battery for the evening. That is why most of our 2026 designs pair panels with storage. Systems without a battery can still make sense if your daytime usage is high.
03How long does a residential solar install take from signing to switching on?
The crew is usually on your roof for one to two days. The longer parts are permitting with the city or county and SCE's interconnection review, which are outside our control but which we manage for you. We give you a realistic timeline for your city at the design stage rather than a generic promise.
04Which solar panels and inverters do you install?
We work with Enphase and SolarEdge inverter systems and panels from manufacturers including Q CELLS, Canadian Solar, Panasonic and LG. The right combination depends on your roof shape, shade and whether you plan to add a battery or EV charger later. We explain the trade-offs rather than pushing one brand.
05Can I go solar with no money down?
Yes. We offer $0-down programs through financing partners such as Dividend and ELN, and we honor military and veteran discounts. With a lease or PPA, the third-party owner may still be able to claim the business tax credit through 2027, which can lower your rate. Our financing page compares the options side by side.
06Will solar damage my tile roof?
Not when it is mounted correctly. Tile roofs need specific flashed mounts and a crew that knows how to lift and replace tiles without cracking them. We inspect the roof first, flag anything that should be repaired before panels go on, and use attachment methods that keep the roof watertight.
07What happens to my system if you go out of business?
Fair question, because it has happened to a lot of Californians. Our answer is a company that has been permitting solar in the valley since 2019 and that actively takes on orphaned systems from other installers. Your equipment warranties are with the manufacturers regardless, and we file those claims for our customers.
