Heating and cooling service and replacement in Palmdale

Service calls when the air conditioning quits in July, and heat pump or full system replacement when it is time. We are the same local crew that installs your solar, so the new system is designed to run on it.

Who this is for

Homeowners with a system that is struggling, and homeowners planning to run the house on solar.

Heating and cooling is a newer line of work for SunCoast, and it grew out of a pattern we kept seeing on solar jobs. Homes across Palmdale and Lancaster spend most of their summer electricity on air conditioning, often through an aging unit that is working far harder than it should. Putting solar on a roof to feed an inefficient air conditioner is solving half the problem. Replacing that unit with an efficient heat pump, and powering it from the array, is the other half.

So this page is for two kinds of people. The first has a system that is not keeping up, is making noise, or has stopped altogether and needs a service call. The second is planning a solar or battery project and wants the heating and cooling designed as part of it, including moving from gas heat to electric. We help both, and we are straightforward about which option makes financial sense.

Good fit if…

  1. An aging air conditioner runs all afternoon and shows up on the SCE bill
  2. You are adding solar or a battery and want the heating and cooling load designed in
  3. You want to move from gas heat to an electric heat pump
  4. The system is noisy, short-cycling or not keeping up on 100-degree days

Not the right fit if…

  1. The ductwork is the problem, leaks or undersized returns, and you expect a new unit alone to fix it
  2. You want the lowest possible bid; we size and specify for the high desert, not the cheapest unit
  3. The home has no electrical capacity for a heat pump and no plan to upgrade the panel
  4. You are well outside the Antelope Valley; heating and cooling is a Palmdale and Lancaster service first

Benefits

Why pair heating and cooling with solar in the high desert

  1. 01

Built for 105-degree summers and freezing nights

The Antelope Valley swings from triple digits in July to below freezing in January. A modern heat pump handles both with one piece of equipment, sized for this climate rather than a coastal one.

  2. 02

Cooling that runs on your own solar

Air conditioning is the biggest load on a Palmdale summer bill, and it runs when the sun is highest. Pairing an efficient heat pump with rooftop solar turns that cost into something your roof covers.

  3. 03

    Electric heat instead of gas

A heat pump heats by moving heat rather than burning fuel, so winter heating can come from solar and a battery instead of the gas bill. It also removes one more combustion appliance from the house.

  4. 04

    Service calls, not just replacements

A system that will not cool, short-cycles or blows warm air often needs a repair, not a new unit. We diagnose first and tell you honestly whether repair or replacement makes sense.

  5. 05

Electrical work under our C-10 license

Heat pumps and new condensers need dedicated circuits and sometimes panel work. That is done by our own licensed electricians, not a second contractor.

  6. 06

Designed with the rest of the house

Because we install solar, batteries and EV chargers, we size the electrical service for all of it at once instead of discovering the panel is full after the fact.

The process

How a service call or replacement works

Diagnose, quote in writing, then repair or replace.

  1. 01

Describe the problem or the plan

No cooling, uneven rooms, an aging furnace, or a wish to go all-electric with solar. We ask about the house, the ductwork and the current equipment.

  2. 02

    Diagnostic or replacement assessment

For a service call, a technician tests the system and quotes the repair. For a replacement, we measure the home and load, inspect ducts and check the electrical panel.

  3. 03

    Written recommendation

Repair, replace, or replace with a heat pump and add solar. Each option is priced so you can compare, with the electrical work included where it is needed.

  4. 04

    Permits and installation

Replacement equipment is permitted with your city or county. We install the unit, run any new circuits under our C-10 license and commission the system.

  5. 05

    Startup and walkthrough

We verify airflow and refrigerant charge, set up the thermostat and show you how to run the system efficiently through an Antelope Valley summer.

What to know about heating and cooling in the Antelope Valley

Climate, equipment, ductwork, electrical and permits, kept simple.

The climate drives the sizing

Palmdale sits at about 2,650 feet in the high desert. Summers run above 100 degrees for weeks, winter nights drop below freezing, and the air is dry year round. Equipment sized from a generic Southern California assumption will be undersized for July and can be wrong for January. We size from the actual house: square footage, insulation, window exposure, duct condition and how the rooms are used. Oversizing is as bad as undersizing; a unit that is too big short-cycles, wears out early and leaves rooms uneven.

Heat pumps versus conventional systems

A heat pump is an air conditioner that can run in reverse to heat. In a climate like ours it does both jobs well, and it lets a home with solar and a battery heat with its own electricity rather than gas. A conventional split system with a gas furnace is still a valid choice, particularly if you are replacing a failed condenser and keeping a furnace that has years left. We quote what fits, and we do not make brand claims on this page; equipment selection is part of the written recommendation for your home.

Ductwork

Many Antelope Valley homes have attic ducts that leak and bake in summer. A new unit connected to bad ducts underperforms from day one. Part of the replacement assessment is checking duct condition and sealing or repairing where needed, which is often the least expensive improvement in the whole project.

Electrical and permits

A heat pump or new condenser needs a dedicated circuit, a disconnect at the unit and, in older homes, sometimes a panel upgrade. That electrical work is done under our C-10 license (CSLB #1105123), which is the same license that covers our solar and battery installs. Equipment replacement is permitted with the city or county and inspected. If you are also adding solar or an EV charger, we plan the electrical service for everything at once.

Paying for it

We do not list HVAC pricing on this page because it depends entirely on the house and the equipment. What we do is give you a written price for each option and explain how a heating and cooling replacement can be bundled with a solar or battery project. The financing page covers those options, and the incentives page tracks any current programs for efficient electric equipment.

Why SunCoast

One crew for the equipment and the power that runs it

  1. 01

    We install the solar, too

Nobody else on the job has to guess how big the array is or whether the battery can carry the air conditioner. We designed both.

  2. 02

    Licensed electricians on every install

Circuits, disconnects and panel work run under our own C-10 license, so there is no second contractor and no gap in responsibility.

  3. 03

    Local to the valley

Palmdale office, Antelope Valley crew. When the air conditioning quits in August, a local number matters.

  4. 04

    Honest about repair versus replace

A service call that ends in a repair is a good outcome. We only recommend replacement when the numbers support it.

Questions

Heating and cooling questions

01Does a heat pump work in Palmdale winters?

Yes. Modern heat pumps are designed to heat efficiently well below freezing, and Antelope Valley winter nights, while cold, are within their range. We size the system for the coldest nights so it keeps up without relying on backup heat strips more than necessary. In summer the same unit is your air conditioner.

02Should I repair my air conditioner or replace it?

It depends on the age of the system, what failed and how much you are spending on electricity to run it. A refrigerant leak or a failed capacitor on a mid-life system is a repair. A compressor failure on a 15-year-old unit is usually a replacement. We diagnose first and give you both numbers so the decision is yours.

03How much does solar reduce my cooling bill?

Air conditioning is the largest summer load in most Palmdale and Lancaster homes and it runs during daylight hours, which is exactly when solar produces. The overlap is what makes the combination work. The exact savings depend on your system size, your rate plan and whether you have a battery for the evening hours; we model it from your actual bill.

04Do you replace furnaces and gas systems too?

Yes. We service and replace conventional split systems and furnaces as well as heat pumps. If you want to move from gas heating to electric, a heat pump replacement is how that happens, and we explain the trade-offs for your house rather than pushing one option.

05Will a new heat pump need electrical panel work?

Sometimes. A heat pump needs a dedicated circuit, and in older homes with a 100-amp panel that already serves an electric range, dryer and EV charger there may not be room. We check the panel during the assessment. Any panel or circuit work is done under our C-10 electrical license and included in the quote.

06Are there incentives for heat pumps in California?

Utility and state programs for efficient electric heating and cooling change frequently, and eligibility often depends on income and the equipment chosen. We do not quote incentive figures on this page; our incentives page tracks what is current and we will tell you what applies to your project when we quote it.
